Personally, when my desktop died, I looked at 17" laptops that had punch. So it could sit on a desktop and be just as powerful, but I could take it around with me, if I wanted to schlep the 15 pounds on my back. ;)
HP (which now owns Compaq) makes good, solid machines. I've always been happy with them.
O/S - Vista Premimum (32 bit). If you get a powerful enough machine, this will be standard, so the laptop can utilize all of the memory. But, for the record, I hate Vista.
Best Buy is where I got my last laptop. Or you can go to the computer manufacturer's website and buy direct from them.
As much as I would love to have a laptop from Alien Ware - the Dell outlet is always much more affordable. They sell refurbished computers, as well as ones that were custom ordered, but never paid for...
... last I checked (days ago) they had a really nice system that someone apparently ordered in canary yellow and did not like.
The laptopI am on now is from there actually... it is a pretty fast and reliable computer - just that now I want one with a 17 inch monitor, removabl hard drives, and a bit more memory.
