As the hospital where I work seems to have hit the local headlines regarding the policy for "snow leave" I was just wondering, for those that had to stay home due to the snow..

I worked from home too, though if I hadn't been able to I wouldn't have had to take a day's leave.

We have a real problem with WfH in general. It used to be commonplace, so it was abused. Then we were bought up and our lace-making overlords from Sheriffland had never heard of the practice. Cue general grizzling, and eventual office-bound stalemate.

Then the snow, and several people really physically can't get in. No-one knows what's going on. It's a hanging offence to WfH without prior notice signed in blood, but el honcho grande is one of those most affected. The regular road warriors are missing anyway, no-one knows if it's snow, schmoozing customers or golf.

Now no-one knows if we get paid, rewarded or sacked for it. Few even care.

Admin staff have been slapped with the "take leave or make up the time" stick (I have no leave left so have 7 1/2 hours to make up, which is a lot when you already work full time).

I emailed my manager to ask why that didn't apply to clinical staff and pointed out the blatant unfairness of the situation. She said that it did; which is a great big lie because all the people I work for are outraged on my behalf. Do they think we don't talk to each other. This is how I almost ended up unemployed last Wednesday.

The union are unlikely to help, but they are going to hear about it.
