hope the move goes smoothly! house buying/selling is so stupidly stressful though - i think it's because there are so many things you have to keep tabs on. Good luck :)
We waited 4 months for ours, despite having a very short chain (one person buying our house for cash, one person selling a house to us and moving to rented).
Eventually it was the schools allocation deadline of 15 January that forced the issue. Council rules are very strict; if you don't have exchange of contracts by 15 Jan then you basically can't select a preferred school for September, and we really wanted our daughter to go to the school on the same estate. I told the estate agents something very scary but not absolute like "If we don't get exchange of contracts by the 12th we will have to reconsider the whole deal" and lo, we exchanged on the 11th. I'd like to think those two things were related, but at best I probably only pushed things along a little.
