I've been up late obsessed (again), just like I was doing ALL this past winter break, obsessing over this and that and the other...Today it's economics. Specifically, the economics of oil, and how it's currently the only thing keeping the U.S. from having a hyperinflated economy and collapsing. To make a long story short, world countries have to ( Read more... )

Well, if it makes you feel any better, The American standard of living was going to be over 30 years from now anyway, when all the oil is used up and gone.

I wish I could say something to help you calm down, Mazrim, but I'm not an economist. However, you express concerns about the current administration not being able to properly deal with the problems ahead - about that, the administration has still time to change before it becomes a problem, and something like what you fear will be HUGE, and it won't happen overnight. When - and if, not all parts of the EU are agreeing to the use of the Euro, so it may still be unstable for a while to come - such a change occurs, it will take time for OPEC to make their adjustments as well, time for the US to try and work things out. It will be too huge to ignore, too huge not to struggle to work out in the best way possible ( ... )

It's true, that the only wise (non-economically-suicidal) thing for the U.S. to do is to accept the increasing power of the EU and of China, and to step back from its traditional spot as the biggest superpower of the world to share power with other nations, to try and work things out. That would be a really good thing, and I hope that's what happens.

I guess living in the U.S. has made me skeptical of any equation of "wisdom" with "U.S. foreign policy," but who knows. I'm sure this great nation still has some sense in it. And you're right, there are other politicians aside from the war hawking religious conservatives currently in office. Funny to think that, since they've been in office since I was...geez, since I was 13 years old, just starting to even follow politics. I'm pretty young, still.
