We've got a pretty good yogurt for breakfast, fruit for lunch thing going. Dinner is basically whatever veggies we're having (tonight it was roasted potato, carrot and broccoli). She's totally fine having multiple chunks in front of her at lunch, but at dinner she just shoves them all in her mouth at once. Crazy baby ( Read more... )

I know, right? You have to get the "baby smashing the cake in her face" photos, after all.

this might work?

basically, this person suggests substituting plain yogurt for the egg in a box mix and cutting 5 minutes off the bake time. i've also heard the applesauce trick, but i'm ambivalent. you might try talking to reme; i think she's dabbled in vegan recipes.

i looked at allergy info a little bit in finding cake mix for a friend of mine with a severe dairy allergy. apparently duncan hines is really good with allergen information. (i found a duncan hines box that was Orthodox Union certified kosher, not just one that didn't list dairy as an ingredient, and my friend was fine. i made my own frosting, though.) there seems to be a lot of information out there on allergy avoidance, though some of it seems conflicting. when in doubt, i keep reading.

Recommendations for introducing allergenic foods have changed, too, which is confusing. I'm thinking that if she has wheat before 1, I should be ok just substituting the egg of the cake part. I don't know about frosting, though. I'll have to do more research.

Niece 1 had a dairy and egg allergy diagnosed before her first birthday and niece 2 had an egg allergy diagnosis. If you want me to get a recipe off my sister I can but there are lots online. I think she has used applesauce as well as the powder egg replacer at different times.

I thought you could use applesauce instead of egg. I'll definitely have to do more research and look for recipes online.
