Yay! you posted! *grin* I was noticing the Brit-like similarity too: the whole, one party is in control or the other, the "turning over" of the committees to whichever party is majority- it is really similar in those ways.

If we had "tiered voting" i.e. vote for your 3 favorites in descending order.. then we would get a lot more party varience.

Did you see my ol' post about "more party animals"?? *grin* heh. I like the rw&b octopus & rat, and giraffe.

Damn computers. There was supposed to be a joke in the gap of the above post...

^Insert Sarcasm Here^

but with those pointy brackets turned on their sides. I guess it thought I was trying a legit command. Friggin Microsoft thinks it knows what I want to say better than I do.

Yes, BUT!

Minneapolis has approved Instant Runoff Voting! Of course it's only going to be City elections (for now), and it doesn't include school board, but it IS the beginning of a groundswell of support for a system that allows us to vote for whom we want to elect, without worrying about "spoiler" situations.

Okay, I realize that I'm barely coherent. I'm still excited about it plus I'm in a hurry. I'll post something later about why I think that it may have been the single most important question on the ballot this time around (although it doesn't look like much right now).

it sounds cool from the little bit I've heard about it - I love the idea (thus far!) I also like petition options to get things on the ballot (like we had out in Oregon- but it has to be done w/lots of signatures so you don't get a ton of crap on the ballot) & also I like the idea of "tiered voting" - so that you can vote for more then one person in each category & the votes are weighted & if less then a certain percent goes to any candidate the votes rollover to the next - it's a system I read about for bringing 3rd parties into more viability (so many people don't vote for Greens/Independents because they don't like either the Dem or the Rep so much they can't stand the idea that their vote might "elect" the worst guy - I'm sad I can't explain it better, but it's a really cool idea) ...
