Pennsic Part Two

Aug 13, 2009 09:08

Did I mention that the place I camped was right in between Vlads, one of the most infamous party households at Pennsic, and the Casa Bardicci, a crazy cool Italian Villa? Well, it was. And it was quite nice. Didn't have to stumble to far home to get back from the party, had nice neighbors who we shared food, booze, and manpower with, and barely had to leave camp for entertainment.

While we were right next to Vlads, we didn't hang out there all that much. I did end up doing last minute stunt party retinue during the slave auction at Vlads, and getting to go into the VIP area with TRM's and Sir Girnon. It was fun, since a couple performer friends of mine were being auctioned off. Paolo had his performing skills auctioned off , as did my friends Kim and Shoshi from Wandering Gypsy Theater. They both got bought for the Clan Bluefeather party. I didn't get many good photos, but I did get an embarrassing one...

Rowan, an amazing fire dancer who sometimes lives in the Seattle area. She camps at Vlad's and helped organize the VIP area.

Sir Girnon schmoozing...

And the embarrassing picture of the night, Sir Girnon breaking a stool. Aren't I handy to have around taking pictures? This was a bit of hubris after he'd wanted me to take the last picture with her majesty on his lap... (insert evil laugh)

So that was Vlads... on to the Casa Bardicci! An incredible place. They spent a week and a half building it, had their fancy party, then started taking it down.

The most impressive part, the dance floor built over the canal

I did mention that they built it over the water, right???  A view of the casa from our camp

Looking in the back

From the back - you can actually walk on the top of collinade - they were just finishing building the railing when I took this picture. There were a couple other second story walkways too.

The backdoor to Morning Wood.

There are also a bunch of local traditions associated with my Pennsic household and their friends. These included the Lake Pride Parade, the sacrificing of the Pennsic virgins, the assassination of the Mayor of Morning Wood, and the lunch money card game tourney where everyone was supposed to dress up in school girl outfits (especially the guys). Oh, and playing a lot of games with people from Clan Tynker. I don't think a day went passed where I didn't end up hanging out with a few Tynkers.

As soon at the Tynkers got on site on Friday we somehow all ended up in their tent playing Three Man. For hours. And hours. Luckily Kim and Shoshi were there too and fed us. My introduction to the Pennsic performer lifestyle...  In the picture: Paolo, someone from the Outlands, Shoshi of Wandering Gypsy Theater, Rebekah Tynker.

The Lake Pride Parade took place around 3pm on Wednesday of War Week since there were no war points that day, and a few of us actually fought. It started three years ago (now it's apparently a tradition) as a gesture to get people together, appease the lake so it wouldn't eat the residents of the lake district, and of course have a good time. Everyone gathers, including the Pennsic virgins, who are encouraged to drink. Various households from around the lake bring representatives, virgins, signs, banners, musical instruments. The parade winds it's way around the lake, hailing the various households until it reaches the Familia Gladitoria and their temple. The parade enters the encampments, and the drunkest virgin, um, I mean the one least in this world, is chosen to be the oracle and ascends the steps to the temple. She is then asked three questions. After answering, she is "sacrificed via water balloon. Then the rest of the Pennsic virgins are sacrificed via water balloon. Then the parade continues to the Grassy Knoll, where the Mayor of Morning Wood gives a speech and is assasinated with a water balloon. Then everyone else dies, due to water balloons. Great fun!

People begin gathering in the Morning Wood common area for the parade

There are representatives from Morning Wood, Pandora's Box / Springwood Forrest, The Temple of Debauchery, Clan Tynker, Casa Bardicci, and more... Oh, and the guy with the guitar? Yeah, he is wearing elf ears. Tee hee.

Ferrin was also a Pennsic Virgin, so I convinced him to come down and join in the fun so I wouldn't be the only An Tirian sacrifice.

And there was singing and dancing and revelry. I was saved from too much revelry since I had a juggling date with Rebekah and Sam Tynker before the parade - note the juggling clubs strewn about.

Two of the lovely ladies from the Casa.

I didn't get any pictures of the parade, but there is a video of the parade! There is also a video of the assassination of the Mayor!

And just to up the sillieness of this post, here are pictures from the Lunch Money Tournament:

School girl outfits for everyone!!!

Of course the silliness wasn't confined to Morning Wood. I dragged a bunch of people up the hill to the West Party where they enjoyed the Lion Hunt and Octoberfest, and they realized that the topsiders are also prone to sillieness. I got to hang out with Ulf and the other South Africans, and meet some more people from the West and Caid. I didn't get many pictures since it was dark, but I did get a picture of Ms. Octoberfest:

I also got a bunch of pics of us just relaxing and hanging out around camp. Dunno if they interest anyone but me... but here they are.

Everyone bugging Eva:

Us getting all tarted up to go to the Casa Bardicci party dressed as the Don's Courtisans. None of us brought stuff to dress up with, so we had to raid merchants row for feathers. Every year they have a new person play the Don, and this year they chose Paolo, so we had to back him up and make sure he had retinue.
