I've finally decided to enter
SWAP or sewing with a plan! Thanks to A, I have been exposed to this contest for several years, and been tempted to enter every year. She completed it the year before last I believe.
This is a contest sponsored by the Stitchers Guild Sewing Forum. The rules change a little every year, but each year the general plan is that you have from around the beginning of the year through the end of April to make a mix-and-match set of compatible clothing. This year the rules focus on developing a set of fitted patterns to use as a basis for future sewing, and to make eleven garments, four of which can be duplicates of the same item type. Usually people choose at least a set of colors for a theme. I'm choosing to do mine in mostly browns and greens (depending on the fabrics I locate) and am planning on using this as an excuse to learn to use my serger and sew knits. I have a hard time finding well fitting work-out clothing, so will be making two work out shirts and shorts, as well as a blouse, a button-down shirt, two skirts, two dresses, and a jacket. I did the following story board, though I may change a couple of my choices:
I already had a few of these patterns in my stash, and went out and bought four new patterns today (holy zeus patterns are expensive! even on sale!!!). I may end up not doing the wrap dress because I don't have a large enough piece of fabric in my stash for it right now. I need almost six yards of a nice dark green or brown or patterned non-stretch woven fabric, so if anyone has something stashed they'd like to trade me for some glass or some such, let me know! Otherwise I may be digging out another dress pattern that requires less fabric. I also couldn't find any dark green or brown jersey at fabric depot. How lame is that?!?! I may end up looking for used t-shirts to cannibalize. Or if you know of a good place to buy relatively thick jersey on-line, please hook me up. This will be the most modern sewing I've done since the spate of wedding dresses several years ago, so wish me luck! And hopefully I'll have an enriched wardrobe in the nearish future. :-)
