Maxis Match Only

Hi again!

So since this afternoon I've been working on a new community called maxismatch_only. There is no post yet but it will come soon. I'm working on tags, because tags are our best friends and if you don't have them you can't find nothing. I already have 30 tags based on ep's and sp's + the buy mode categories by function find on the sims wiki.

I' would like to. :) And indeed there need to be rules to determine what's Maxis Match and what's not. The examples you've given below in the reply to meetme2theriver are very good. Maxis add-ons can definitely be considered maxis match.

What we probably need to think about as well if conversion / recreations (as if you can't really convert from TS1->TS2) from the other sims games can be considered Maxis Match. I'd say yes, but I don't know how you're thinking about that category.

There's already a community for TS3 -> TS2 conversions, though, so we can just link to that, I think. :) But I don't think there's anything like that for TS1 recreations?

Maxis add-on sets are excellent, there should definitely be a category for those!

I could try helping out, although I don't know how much actual time I'll have, so it might be a bit sporadic.

I think a good place to start would be to define what exactly counts as "maxis match", since that can be a bit ambiguous at times. I know there's no hard and fast rule, but some general guidelines would be good. And whether or not links to paysite content (and/or booty) is okay.

Damn you ask a good question about the "maxis match" ambiguity. I'm not really sure how to answer. For hairs it's easy you need to use the game colors. For example for me what buggybooz do, is not maxis match. But this http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=463194 and this http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=457510 is. For the paysite content and/or booty I have some in my game but to be post on the community it should be seriously awesome, like your game is not the same without it.

What do you think about your 2 questions?

Hair colours should be close to Remi's and Simgaroops textures, they're both fairly close to the Maxis colours and not too shiny either. I'm with you that skins and eyes need to have a cartoony look. You make some really good points and agree with everything wholeheartily. :)

I think a booty link should always be provided in case of a paysite. There is some great stuff out there (like some of Mutske's add-ons on TSR) but some of them are pay, and it would be a shame to leave them out.

Also, what are the thoughts on Maxis Match sims? Just sims with MM content? It would be strange to restrict sims to recreations of premades from the other sims games etc, because we have Maxis Taste for that.

I really like your set of rules. I like that you give example of what we're talking about and what we don't want.

If in the future members can post too, we should have rules against hotlinks and the sizes of the pictures, no?

And what do you think of the community journal style? Me I think it should be simple and clean but if you or meetme2theriver think another one is better, tell me. :)

The community style is nice and clean, I think. :) I personally prefer styles that use more of the screen instead of just a small portion in the middle, but I realize lots of people like these styles (and LJ is sadly lacking in nice, pre-made styles that do cover more of the screen, as I found out when looking for a style for my own journal). It would make for less scrolling in big posts and make big pictures less likely to break the style, though.
