Title: Ghosts
Pairings: OnTae, MinKey, friendly!JongKey
Description: Where Minho and Jonghyun are ghosts, and Key’s younger vampire brother Taemin is in love with his best friend Onew.

When Taemin slipped soundlessly into the apartment early the next morning, he expected to see Key passed out on the couch from waiting up for him, but instead was met with a pitch black apartment silent as a graveyard. He frowned and started flicking on lights as he made his way towards Key’s room. To his surprise, Key’s room door was flung wide open and his brother was already fully dressed for school even though it was barely past 5 in the morning. Taemin hesitantly stepped towards his brother.

“Key…? Is everything okay?” Taemin waved a hand before Key’s blank face to no avail, but before he could take the next step, Key’s hand shot out and pushed his torso back. In shock, Taemin fell backwards onto the floor, before he noticed the smashed photo frame he had been about to step on.
“That’s…Jonghyun’s picture!” Taemin’s eyes widened and he leaned over to grip his brother’s shoulders, shaking them hard. “Key! What happened?!”

Groggily, as if he’d just been woken up from a deep slumber, Key turned to his younger brother and shook his head.
“Um…nothing. I’m okay. What time is it? We have to go to school today right?" As he spoke, Key seemed to return to his usual self. "And where did you go all night?! I waited up for you-"
"You didn't sleep, did you." Taemin cut through the nagging. Key frowned slightly, before shaking his head.
"I...I don't remember. I don't think I did..." Taemin sighed. Something was definitely not right.

Onew sent a text to Taemin declining a ride to school, telling him that they'd meet at lunch, so Taemin was left to handle Key on his own. It wasn't that Key was being difficult, on the contrary, he was being too lifeless. He sat motionless on the couch while Taemin got ready, and when Taemin buttered a slice of toast and put it before him, he continued to stare off into nothingness. Several times, Taemin had to hold a hand to Key's chest to make sure he was still breathing, and his heart still beating.

Key was finally deposited into his class by a flushed Taemin just in time for the first bell, to the utter delight of all the girls in Key's class, who flocked around the boy ruffling his hair and pinching his cheeks. With a grimace, Taemin ducked and ran out of the class towards his own homeroom on the second floor, where he endured two hours of mindless droning before shooting out of the room again when the lunch bell rang.

However, as fast as he was, his form teacher (whom Taemin suspected was not human, at all) still managed to grab the back of his collar and yank him to a halt.
"Taemin, I know you're in a special situation, since you're living alone with your elder brother, and your mother...but that's no excuse for your work to be in this state! I mean......" Taemin groaned inwardly as the droning resumed.

Key's classmates noticed him being a little 'off' that day, and so guided him out to the huge tree outside the cafeteria that he usually had lunch at with Taemin and Onew, depositing him on the grass next to Onew. The two continued spacing out staring off into the distance side by side, until Onew suddenly turned to Key and poked him.
"Key, wake up, I need to ask you something." Key slowly turned to look at Onew, his eyebrows slightly raised.
"How...how do i hold hands?" Key blinked several times, before he actually seemed to wake up from his trance.

"LEE ONEW ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! YOU'VE SLEPT A NIGHT IN TAEMIN'S BED AND YOU'RE ASKING ME HOW TO HOLD HIS HAND?!!" At Key's shrieking, a few students stopped eating and started listening in. Onew flushed a dark shade of pink and he waved a hand to shut Key up, but now that he'd started, Key couldn't stop.
"I MEAN, IT'S OBVIOUS THE TWO OF YOU ARE HEAD OVER HEELS FOR EACH OTHER, AND I KNOW YOU'VE DEFINITELY HELD HIS HAND BEFORE SO JUST DO IT AGAIN JEEZ." Key poked a finger in the middle of Onew's forehead, making the elder topple over in shock. Key sat there panting slightly, staring at Onew on the grass with wide eyes, until Onew burst out in loud guffaws.

"Well I'm glad I finally got you out of that trance. What happened anyway?" Onew slowly sat back up, brushing grass off his shirt. Key turned his mouth to the side in a pout, before his forehead creased.
"I...don't remember actually." Key ran his fingers through his hair. Onew shook his head before ruffling Key's hair, smiling warmly.

That evening after Key had drifted off to sleep, Taemin slipped out his  bedroom window and climbed down to the second floor, where he shocked Onew out of his wits by knocking on the window. Once Onew calmed down enough to realize Taemin wasn't some oversized nightmarish bird-creature, he opened the window and let the shivering boy fall onto his bed in his arms.

As Taemin snuggled into Onew's warm chest, the latter ran his fingers through Taemin's hair, gently working out the tangles. Taemin's eyes were about to flutter close, when Onew spoke.
"Taemin ah...what do you think about going back to your old town?" Taemin stared up at him with sleepy eyes.
"Back...to do what?"
"I want to know what your town was like...so I can know more about you." Onew mumbled the last half, but Taemin heard anyway and smiled secretly.
"Mmmm...sure" Taemin muttered into Onew's chest as he hugged the elder tighter.
