Title: Ghosts
Pairings: OnTae, MinKey, friendly!JongKey
Description: Where Minho and Jonghyun are ghosts, and Key’s younger vampire brother Taemin is in love with his best friend Onew.
“I am Seungho, the current Head of the Council. This is the Council Master and my Advisor, G.O,” he gestured to his right, “and my Head of Defence and Protector, Changsun. Behind are Sanghyun and Cheolyong, my High Mage and Investigator respectively.” One by one, the vampires tilted their heads as a greeting when they were introduced. Key obviously knew them, returning the greeting in the same manner, his jaw clenched tight.
Onew’s jaw nearly reached the floor as he flopped back listlessly onto the couch in shock. His lips trembling, he stared at the stone cold faces of each of the men, if they could even be called as such.
“V-vampires…a Council…of Vampires…” he mumbled, his pupils shaking. The erudite Council Master frowned.
“Does the human not know…?” Key’s eyes widened as he dropped to his knees.
“I…I have not…I apologise.” Onew had never heard Key’s voice so utterly terrified, and it scared him more than the five presences before them.
At a flick of the leader’s hand, Key was lifted back to his feet, without anyone - or anything - touching him. Key stood with his hands clasped before him, head bent as if he was searching for gold upon the antique carpet, but Onew clearly saw the pulsing blue vein on his neck that only appeared when he was trying to subdue an overwhelming emotion - like fear, or anger.
“We will handle that later. The main issue here is your brother.” Key swallowed hard, and swiftly moved over to the side, forcefully dragging Onew out of the way as he did so. Before he could stop himself, Onew felt his mouth opening.
“He just…hit his head, and then he became like this…” The Investigator flicked a haughty look over at Onew, as the High Mage knelt by the couch, placing his slender hand on Taemin’s forehead. At a glance Onew noticed how alike their skin colours were compared to his and at that moment was finally hit with the realization that they really were that much different from him, and he would never, ever be able to become like them. The strength left his knees and he crumbled to the floor, while the immobile Key continued staring at Taemin, as entranced as Onew was.
The High Mage let his eyelids flutter close for a second, and Onew felt the hairs on his body stand as a shiver ran down his spine from the suddenly tense atmosphere in the room, as if the molecules of their very beings were being stretched in a million different directions at once. Then the High Mage turned and mumbled something that everyone but Key and Onew heard, and with a nod of the Council Head, the Investigator, High Mage and Protector disappeared in three blurs. Then the remaining two turned to the humans.
“Onew, what do you know about Taemin?” Onew closed and opened his mouth a few times, repeatedly licking his dry lips before replying.
“I know…he’s a vampire. But he doesn’t feed on humans. And that’s all…” The Head nodded, and glanced back at the silent Advisor, as if acknowledging something he said.
“You don’t know any more about vampires?” Onew shook his head furiously. “Alright then, Lee Onew, we have decided. We shall not wipe your memory of this, on the condition that you tell no one about this, and you guard this secret with your life.” This time, Onew nodded his head frantically. Only then did the vampires turn to Key.
“He wasn’t able to feed sufficiently and the blow to his head rendered him immobile due to his lack of supplement. Ensure this does not happen again. The others will handle the rest. We will take our leave now.” With a slight nod, they vanished in a blur. Onew turned to Key with a huge grin on his face, until he saw the boy’s clenched fists and tightened jaw, which wiped the grin right off Onew’s face. Without another word, Key stormed upstairs, before slamming his room door shut. Onew shrugged and sat down on the floor next to the couch, tenderly smiling upon Taemin.
Upstairs, Key was pacing irately within his room, rambling off to Jonghyun who just floated in the corner mumbling “uhmm…” at appropriate intervals. He knew from first-hand experience that there wasn’t any point in saying anything until Key was done, unless he wanted to be banished, something only the current owner of the house had the power to do.
“I mean, like what the hell?! The only other time they’ve appeared is when Taemin was made, to ‘educate’ me and all that shit, what about when Taemin’s fangs were growing out and he was almost going rabid huh? And that time when Taemin couldn’t find anything to feed on and had to feed on me? I didn’t see them anywhere near then -” Then he walked right into the solid mass of Minho.
Jonghyun literally leapt out of the corner and pounced on the taller guy, yanking him away from the stunned Key.
“What the hell are you doing here.” He growled as he held Minho by the collar, which Key suspected was the highest point that he could comfortably reach. Minho just smirked down at him, with the same aloof expression that Key had faced the first time they met.
“Why can’t I be here, Jonggie~?” Jonghyun’s eyes widened at that and he slammed Minho up against the cupboard.
“THIS IS MY HOUSE, YOU DEMENTED SPIRIT. YOU CAN’T BE HERE, BECAUSE I DON’T WANT YOU HERE, YOU FREAKING TALL TOO GOOD LOOKING FOR YOUR OWN GOOD BIG-EYED GHOST!!!” Again, Minho showed no hint of any expression, other than boredom. Smiling condescendingly, he coolly replied.
“Or do you just not want me here because you’re trying to suck out his soul?” he pointed with his chin towards Key, who finally snapped out of his staring trance and went forward to yank Jonghyun back.
“Jjong! What are you doing?! You two know each other??” Key’s eyes were wide as he looked back and fourth between the two ghosts, Jonghyun with his chest heaving in rage and Minho with his haughty grin. Minho replied him.
“Jonghyun, don’t you think it’s about time we told him? It’s not like he has to make his choice now…” Jonghyun glanced down at the floor out of the corner of his eyes, an action that Key recognised as him actually seriously considering something.
“Tell me what?! What’s going on here?!” Minho continued staring at Jonghyun, but when the latter didn’t meet his eyes, he sighed and turned to Key.
“You don’t know much about ghosts, do you? Well, there are a few kinds. There are the normal spirits, like that sulky dino over there and of course the demented ones who haunt places and scare people to death. Those are the two main groups; ghosts mostly fall into either category, depending on how they died. The demented ones are always bloodthirsty for revenge and filled with anger and hate, while normal spirits are just at peace with their deaths.” Key nodded slowly, until something clicked.
“You only mentioned Jjong was a normal spirit, so then what are you?” For the first time, Minho seemed uncomfortable and ashamed.
“I’m…a wandering spirit.” Key stared at him with a look of utter confusion, making him roll his eyes. “I don’t know how I died, so I can’t be at peace like a normal spirit, neither do I have a reason to want to cast all living things into hell.”
“Ohhhh…” Key continued nodding, but then his head froze. “So what the hell does all this have to do with me?”
