Disclaimer: I am one of those obnoxious "pinch of this, dash of that" cooks. Even when I begin with a recipe, I tinker and mess with it after the first time that it is nearly unrecognizable. Makes me a pretty decent cook.. but makes it hard to share a recipe. So... I will try to explain my lasagna, but keep that in mind as you read ( Read more... )

and I, too, am one of those dash and pinch and every time I make something I alter it slightly. I mostly use recipes for ideas, as a jumping off point. Same way I use crochet patterns.....

I figure crochet and cooking are just two ways to be creative!

Thanks so much for sharing!!!!!

There is something rather comforting about finding someone who sees things so much like I do. Cooking- and crocheting- that is my art. I love cookbooks, and I haul through recipe sites a lot, but in the end, I make those recipes mine by tinkering.

Just out of curiousity... have you ever done rubber stamping? I keep meaning to drag out all my supplies and make cards again. That was another favorite, in a similar way. I love to see what other people do- gives me a great starting point to get my own creative juices flowing.

My partner and MIL are really into rubber stamping. My partner and I owned a rubber stamp and handmade paper store when we lived in New Hampshire. I did some rubber stamping for awhile, but just never quite got into it. My artistic endeavors lie in other media, but I think RS'ing is cool. I knew a lot of rubber stampers in New England. They are downright cool and friendly people, just like crocheters.

It's fun finding all these connecting points! I'm so glad I joined LJ.

I worked at a craft store for a few years in Seattle, which is where I learned about stamping. While I worked there, I got to try all sorts of crafts. I just loved it. I think, more than the hobbies I picked up, what I really enjoyed was being around other crafty people all the time. I really enjoyed that.

I'm glad you joined too. :)
