The epilogue was spectacularly shitty. XD There is no denying it. Looking back, I wish I hadn't read it. Kinda ruins it for me. It really did read like a terrible piece of fanfiction. But as much as I'm not defending JK Rowling here -- rich, over-hyped bitch that she is -- it really isn't an example for the rest of the novel. If you're going to spoil yourself, I would read the last chapter instead. XD There's no denying that the book in itself was far from spectacular (fanservice and cliches abound, along with not so great writing), but I think it's worth the read. :3

And I know what you mean about editors on crack. D: My favorite book IN THE WORLD has an alarming amount of typos, which I didn't even notice until my third time through the book, so I guess it's not that distracting. Nevertheless, it's very sad the poor book didn't get the respect it deserves. D:

Could not have said it better myself, I'm afraid. I had at least wanted to know what they were *doing* with their lives in the end, but I'm going to steal the term "baby factory" for future descriptions : P

Sooo... last chapter is worth the read, or whole book is worth the read? Hahaha. ;-)

And I hate editors on crack. This book (Dune) is actually very good, but when I got to "Duke Leto Streides" I wanted to scream.

i'm a HUGE harry potter fan. love all the books and am totally satisfied witht the way it ended.
the trilogy i have trouble reading is LOTR. loved the movies, but found the books to be dry, heavy, and slow. hated the tom bombadil part. it took me about 3 weeks to read the 50 pages or however many it was. i've only read through 3/4 of the first book and have barely cracked open the second or third book. the fact that you could actually skip whole chapters in the book and not miss anything important is sad. i do realize that you could skip entire chapters for the 6th harry potter book, but in the other books in the series you can't.

Are you talking trash about the worshipful LOTR just to get a reaction out of me? ;-) It's not dry, heavy, and slow - not by a long shot. It's an older, and denser type of prose. Not bad - just different (and in my opinion, leagues better). And of COURSE you can't skip things and not miss out on anything. That would ruin the book. :-)

just a little :P but i did find LOTR to be very dry and slow. i've read other books that are that style and i've enjoyed them more.

Can't knock it till you've tried it.

Epilogue sucked. It ended my 1 hour crying streak to read that and made this look of puzzlement appear on my face. It just plain sucked.

Yes, LotR is a much better read if you want something more scholarly and sophisticated, but when I was 11, I would ave much more trouble trying to get through any paragraph of Tolkien's than I had getting through Harry Potter. And once you've read one, of course you have to read them all ;)

I agree Harry Potter is a very "childish" piece of work, but that's what makes it so massively appealing to people. It's like reading a movie.

I agree LotR in terms of any English teacher is a much better book than Harry Potter, but for entertainment value, and appeal to the masses, sometimes Tolkien's 3 page descriptions are a LOSE compared to Quidditch matches.

Well, I have tried it. XD Epilogue aside (because it was really this that I was tearing apart in this lj entry), I'm sure Harry Potter is a great book for some people ( ... )
