I -- and presumably everyone else in NorCal -- got spammed with a plug for PG&E's "ClimateSmart" program with last month's bill. Google pulls up a critique of ClimateSmart by one Joseph Romm which sounds like reasonably sound evidence that the program isn't really worth the paper its flyers are printed on. Found on a 4-pack of generic Longs "C"-size batteries:

"No mercury added, contains only naturally occurring trace elements."

Did they just disclaim the presence of technetium and promethium (or, god forbid, actinides)? If so, I definitely want to know who's been doing otherwise. Here's hoping that there's a misplaced "␣element" in there...
