See, normally I wouldn't have this problem, because of yum.
However, the geniuses that set up this box paid for RedHat Enterprise 5, but didn't actually register for the support network.
Keeping in mind, of course, that what you're paying for is the support network.
In order for yum to work with the redhat servers, you have to be registered. I could have hooked yum up to other repositories, but generally they don't have el5 rpms - they have fedora.
Lots of me wanting to stabbity a fork through someone else's head this week.

really, though, i do feel bad for you having to wander in rpm dependency purgatory. dpkg and apt are where it's at.
