I don't know if they did it to make themselves sound intelligent. More to make others look stupid.

2. I tried to make whoever wrote that look stupid. Which they are, but that's beside the point

If you haven't noticed, most of these chain letters are old. They're basically all the same in a way. Some people just miss them the first thousand times and that's why they continue to circulate.
