Here are three classically trained young cellists playing something a little unexpected. Not your mamma's classical or heavy metal music. ;-)

You should see them live, they're vibrant, funny, entertaining and they play great music.

The Wicked Tinkers play all up and down the west coast so if you have a local Scottish Highland games near you, they'll probably be playing there. They play two one hour shows each day at our Highland games. They're worth seeing.

They have a schedule posted here: http://www.wickedtinkers.com/Wicked_Schedule.html

Drat, it doesn't look like they're going to play at our event this year.*is sad*

People are always so surprised by this sort of thing. And yet pound for pound, Heavy Metal musicians are the most musically trained of any "popular" music acts (and second are rappers fer goshsakes).

Years ago, I was shocked to hear that some Metal musician was classically trained (it might even have been the guitarist from Metallica) and then I heard him play a complicated piece of classical guitar. It was gorgeous.

I love to hear the rockers sit down and play a beautiful piece of classical guitar/piano (especially when they're all tricked out in their "rock" faces and wardrobes.) I also love it when they incorporate a classical symphony orchestra, instruments and pieces of music into their own normally rough, raw and wild sound. I love the contrast.
