Christmas in Japan

Points to anyone who's seen the video that quote goes with. I'll probably be quoting it for my posts throughout the month. XD

(I wish I could go home for Christmas. It's just not the same here.)

I've started my month--two weeks, actually--in the Logistics bloc this week. It started with the usual long explanations and strained conversations, and then ended in two days working in a warehouse where I was opening boxes of products, counting and sorting and putting things into boxes that would be shipped to cities all over Japan. It was tiring after a while, and not exactly exciting, but it was simple work, and it was nice to have a change from sitting in the office all day just listening to shit. Also, it's nice to get a little taste of the sort of work other people have to do most of their lives while I complain about my cushy office job where I don't have to work nearly as hard (physically). It's just bloody boring.

Speaking of which, I think everyone should be required to work at least one shitty waiter/waitress/customer service type job for at least long enough to appreciate what other people doing it have to go through. Maybe a few days at a factory/warehouse like this one would be a good idea too.

But anyway.

People continue to ask me what I'm doing for the long Christmas/New Year's break. When I say nothing, they usually strongly suggest I try going somewhere, because even if I have to go alone, it's okay, because Japanese people are nice to foreigners. ...So? It still sucks to go alone, even if strangers are willing to give you directions, it's not like they're going to go touring with you. But what do I know? So I'm thinking of going to Nagasaki for two or three days. I want to try to find a guide group or someone who can help me get around, so I don't have to pay ridiculous amounts of money on taxis just to go somewhere and not know what to look at. I've had two very strong recommendations for couch surfing as well, which I'm still nervous about trying, but I'll at least take a look. So far I can't find a page on Nagasaki, but I might not be looking in the right place. I have a shit ton of things I want to do this weekend, and not enough time to do them, as usual. I'm skipping out on two more gaijin parties this weekend because I'm just partied out for a while (though I'd jump at a chance for karaoke in half a second if anyone asked...)

My neighbor's grandson is having a piano recital tomorrow and they invited me to come along. He played a little for me last night, and of course he's way better than I am. (You really do have to start young...) But I love going to performances, even little recitals like that, so it should be fun. And I'm hoping it'll inspire me to practice more faithfully. It usually does. ^^

Oh, two more things about working in the warehouse: One, you know you've played too many video games when you're working with gloves on and you think to yourself: "Man, I wish I had gloves that could raise my dexterity..." and think for a second of "equipping" another pair. Two, several of the locations to send stuff to had the name "Uwa" in it, so I had the "U-u-uwa-uwa" part of "Caramelldansen" stuck in my head while I went around to the different stations putting stuffs in boxes. I'm such a dork... XDDDDDDDDDDDDD

And that segues quite nicely into this meme.

1) Post a list of up to 20 books/movies/anime/TV shows/video games/bands [fannish etc.] that you've had an obsessive fannish love or interest in at some time in your life.
2) Have your f-list guess your favourite character/member from each item.
3) When someone guesses correctly, strike through the item and put the name of your favorite character next to it.

I think maybe only some of these would be obsessive, but oh well. Others would be too easy because they'd be Disney movies that only have like three main characters. In no particular order:

1. D. Gray Man - Kanda
2. Sailor Moon - Jupiter
3. Yugioh Abridged
4. Final Fantasy 9 - Kuja
5. Final Fantasy 7
6. Ronin Warriors - Sage
7. Gundam Wing - Duo
8. Gintama
9. Angel Sanctuary
10.SaGa Frontier (even though no one here's played it, I'm sure.)
11.MegamanX series
12.Buffy the Vampire Slayer (TV)
13.Spice Girls

...Um. I'm really grasping at straws at this point. If I come up with more, I'll add them in comments, but this'll do for now.
