Finding out what you don't want can be just as helpful as finding what you do want.

Yes. Yes, yes yes. If I hadn't gone to Japan, I would have never realized that Japan/Japanese was just NOT for me. But, since I realized this in time, I got to start stuff for my M. Ed., and I gotta say, I feel so awesome about my education classes; something I've never felt towards Japanese. So, it's all a matter of trial and error. And even though you know that you don't want to do things in a Japanese company, you still have the experience, which can be extremely enlightening.

I'm so glad you've found something to be excited about!

Yes, the experience in and of itself is good, it certainly does a hell of a lot of good for my resume. I do think I could still be happy if I were working with the kind of Japanese stuff I still like--the pop culture aspect--but I've found out I definitely can't just go with anything just because it has Japanese people or Japanese language opportunities in it. I'm not going to completely give up on Japan just yet, but next time I'm looking for a job, if it comes down to a choice of an American company with a relaxed, productive environment but no Japanese, and any old Japanese company at all, I'll probably be choosing the first.
