Binaries

At its heart, Aeris/Seph is sort of an opposites attract ship. There is a lot of duality between these two and I think that you can express that in binaries, many of which, I feel, tap into themes of FF7 as a whole. I'm curious as to what binaries you think these two represent. I went ahead and made a list for myself ( Read more... )

I'm not sure how I feel about the solitary/social one. I think it sort of goes both ways - of their individual characters, you can say Seph is solitary and Aeris is social, but if you look at their lives, Seph's lived his in the public sphere and Aeris in private. Well, either way, I guess it makes the list!

It's part of the whole evil/good thing...It's an archetype...in almost every story, a person who is so evil that they kill at random, they almost invariably toss friends aside and go on alone. The good side on the other hand almost always gets together with like minded people to "Stop the madman from carrying out his nefarious plans!" It's a little silly, since getting people to agree with a course of action, even if it's to save the world, is like herding cats!

Yeah.. But I think it's worth mentioning that Aeris goes on alone, too.

Youth/Experience is an interesting one. Makes me think there's a place for Wisdom/Impulse or Wisdom/Obsession.
