SPN 7x12 "Time After Time After Time" rant

Jan 14, 2012 15:57

I was afraid of this episode to be honest.

Prohibition era is an era I love and the Untouchables is a film I adore so much. But I was afraid of the fact that this is YET ANOTHER time travel episode and it was to do with this era and I was just afraid it would come off as gimmicky and it did seem to me to be very much like Frontierland with fanboy Dean getting his expectations slammed and the monster being in love with the human and the historical figure helping to save the day... and I’m sure it did seem that way to some people but to me it was complete and utter fanservice which I loved every second of it.

Time After Time After Time was great! The only thing that would’ve made me happier is if Al Capone was actually there too.

Here were the things that I loved in this episode (and there’s a lot of them here so beware):

+ Dean being a fanboy...again. I love fanboy Dean. And when he was finally called an Untouchable at the end, I’ll bet he was fist pumping on the inside haha

+ Eliot Ness. Squee! I love Eliot Ness! And I love that he was completely not what Dean expected. You should never meet your hero I suppose... but then again, Eliot Ness was freaking awesome! Hunter extraordinaire who thinks Dean is a bunny and tells him to man up and loves the hooch and kicks in doors- AHH!! SPN I LOVE IT!! <3

+ Dean in the suit. OH MY FRENCH KISSING GOD - DEAN IN THE SUIT!!! My heart actually skipped a beat, it went all fluttery in my chest at him coming out in that suit.

+ Jodie and Sam! Can I just say how much I love Sheriff Jodie Mills?? She’s awesome! And her and Sam’s epic crime solving duo were immense! “Damnit - okay yours sounds better. You go!” LMAO!! And I really REALLY want some fics about Jodie and Sam drinking Jim Beam and reminiscing about life, the universe and everything, anybody?

+ Sam and Dean talking about the same thing but in different times. The splicing of the scenes was very well done.

+ Dean saying “that’s the Chicago way” and getting mocked by Ness. “Who talks like that?!” “....Sean Connery!” Hell yeah!

+ “I learned it from watching you.” And  “Lester; is that a German name?!” - Oh Dean...

+ Ezra being the 1940’s Bobby and calling Dean and Ness idjits! Ezra and Dean’s epic romance as well. BEST. THING. EVER. It’s like Sam and the old lady in Red Sky except weirder cos it just came from nowhere haha

+ Sam’s face when he heard Chronos had strangled Dean in the past. Oh God, that look just killed.

+ The tiny, tiny reference to Al Capone was tiny but I’m so glad it was there.

+ The Infinite Hourglass. I’ve wanted an hourglass as a little tattoo on my wrist and seeing it pop up on SPN makes me want it even more. SPN, stop giving me more tattoo ideas! I already have one do I need another... yes. Yes I do.

+ Ness' speech about why he got into hunting. The fact that he got into hunting because he wanted to make a difference made me smile; he's gruff, hard as nails but deep down he wants to help. I think it gave Dean a lot to think about in his search for meaning.

+ Back to the Future references aplenty. One of my favourite movies mentioned several times within an episode centring round another of my favourite movies? Haha Sam looked so proud and happy when he found Dean’s letter.

+ Dean talking about anime as an art form - oh Dean! Just when I thought I couldn’t love you more you say something like that. And on that note....

+ “Are you gonna watch more anime, or are you strictly into Dick now?” OMG!! Sam BB! That line was genius! IDEK it was like - THE BEST LINE OF SEASON 7 RIGHT FREAKING HERE!!! <3 And his little look of smugness afterwards was immense, ilu Sam <3

+ Paper vs rock - but Dean! I thought you always picked scissors?!

+ Stoned witness guy. He was amazing. That is all.

+ Sammy waking up and being all “whaaaa? Phoooone? Blaaaah!” Oh Sam, you were so cute with your floppy hair going everywhere but you’re so tired. It makes me worry about hell stuff...

So, brilliant episode for me - excuse my fangirliness but I adored it (even if the ending seemed a bit abrupt) and it makes me wanna watch the movie again (and play the Chicago section of Shadow Hearts 3) and then think of Dean grumbling along with bits of it.

Next episodes promo.... (SPOILERS FOR 7x13 RIGHT HERE!!!) I’m not gonna lie, I don’t like it. I hate the premise and it feels like it’s gonna be like that episode of Doctor Who “The Doctor’s Daughter” which is an episode of DW I truly despise. I’m gonna wait and see because I love SPN but I am in no way excited about it =\ (END OF SPOILERS!!)
