Arthur picked up one of the letter stones from his home-made Scrabble set. It was a T. He sighed and put it down again. The letter he put down next to it was an I. That spelt IT. They point out that the question is wrong because of the ship of joggers and such that crashed on earth and started replacing the cavemen.

You know because the planet is a computer. And every creature is data. So the jogger people are corrupting the data like a computer virus.

I noticed that right off when I first read it.

I figure Adams did that on purpose, rather than it being poor math on his part. I think we're supposed to go "Um. Someone need a calculator?"
