Erik's ponderings on Italy: Part Two

Two words for you Italy. You ready? Here is goes: Iced Americano. I know what you're thinking. Maybe I sound a bit Imperialistic trying to push my drink of choice onto your country. Maybe it's too radical to conceive of an iced coffee drink without mountains of sugar or milk in it. But I think it's time. Your culture does so many other things ( Read more... )

HEY. Due to the Saint of incredibly poor timing, Mystery and I happen to be in Rome this very minute, and are about to go to Florence and them Venice. I am extremely sorry that I missed you guys, and didn't run into you, assuming you were here last week at all. I've just discovered your entries and an reading back trough them, but I don't see the names of any of those restaurants in Florence where you can get the gnocchi and truffles and the like... What do you recommend?

As far as the filth in Rome, it's MUCH nicer now than it was in 2005 and 2007... Far less pickpocketry and punk gangs roaming around... But it's like San Fran in that it goes through stages.

Rome has the same toppled towers, there are sone remnants still in Trastevere.

Bummer ... We left the guidebook in rome to dump weight. For rome... Off of the top of my head, go to "cul de sac" which is on the street that runs from east to west just touching the south end of piazza nevona. Go east maybe a block or two... Or just look it up. You *must* order a cheese plate with the honey and jam. And ask for the real wine list!! Omg. Also.... Tapas locas just west of the middle of piazza navona. Killer ( ... )

I never caught on to the facebook thing, so inever set up an account. Lots of my friends did though, so at some point I might give it a shot.

Thanks for the recs, I'll look up O and Cul-de-sac, we had some odd adventures, I'll probably write them all up on the plane back. And yesterday a Barista in the Vatican made me an iced americano when I asked for an off menu cafe freddo... So it's creeping in on the edges a tiny bit.
