Great post Gordo. It's amazing how lazy people can be in just about any setting. Like you said sometimes its just out of spite and ignorance. My buddy (who's not lazy) told me a story about his mother and how she felt it was the governments job to take care of her. On his 18th birthday she took him and tried to sign him up for goverment assistance. I mean..YOWSERS!

I think some people aren't so much worried about looking bad, but just the personal loss of failure in general. Sometimes its a self-esteem issue, not sure in yourself enough to think you can make it on your own. I'm not talking about myself or anything :)

Definitely food for thought. Because I'd like to be rich one day :)

Wow, Jeff, that story sounds like something that would be perfect for a 60 Minutes segment! We don't really have any real rites of passage into adulthood anymore, but that would surely be a bizarre one.

Sometimes I tell my kids you'll start thinking like an adult when you pay your first light bill. Suddenly there's this great motivation to make the (slight) extra effort to turn off the lights and turn up the A/C. If you leave it on, you pay, because you're responsible ( ... )
