spaghetti and exploration

Today was a lot of fun, if a bit confusing at first. Last night I'd arranged to meet Jeff's host parents near the station so they could take me to get that bike I won. We were trying to figure out how much I'd have to pay and where and stuff though because I couldn't really read the letter they'd sent me. My host mother read it and told me I'd have ( Read more... )

Actually, my parents used to do the same thing to us. We always wanted Chili Mac from Steak & Shake because it was like getting a hamburger and spaghetti at the same time, but Mom thought it was too greasy and too expensive, so she'd fry some hamburger in a skillet and put ketchup with a little taco seasoning and hamburger on top of spaghetti and call it homemade Steak-and-Shake-style Chili Mac.

(Of course you kind of have to have come from Central Illinois for most of your life to know about Steak and Shakes. They started in Bloomington and I haven't heard of them from outside Illinois. I've forgotten whether you're an in-state U of I student or an out-of-state one? Do you know about Chili Macs?) Anyway, done rambling now... SO want to go visit Japan again...

How long are you there, and do you know anyone who might have floor crash space if I manage to dig out a long weekend or a week sometime in the next year? (living in the dreamworld again...)

I know what Steak and Shakes are, but I've only been to one like once, so I don't know anything about Chili Mac. I'm technically an in-state student but I grew up in Michigan and have only lived in Illinois since I was fifteen (okay that's five years but still) so I think that makes sense.

I'm here until the end of May next year (two semesters whee!). Um, technically either my family or Jeff's family has space to put guests, but I'm not sure how reasonable it would be to try to get them to let you stay. So yeah, probably can't help you much on the place-to-stay front.

On a slightly more helpful note, if you're looking for a particular manga series or album/single or Japanese game, I can look for it for you. I go to used manga/cd shops like all the time, so if you just tell me the maximum you'd be willing to pay for something, I'll see if I can get it for you.
