The What Happens In Vegas Tour

Jul 24, 2009 03:25

So, we left our house around 2. We almost got to my grandpas before having to turn around and come back home. Eventually, we get out on the road and we're 45 minutes behind schedule. Turns out, this didn't matter. We get to Bloomington around 4:30, the same time we were expecting to get there if we left when we were supposed to. I have no idea how this works. Once we find the venue, we head over to McDonalds. Eat and all that jazz, head back to the venue.
The venue is amazingly tiny. There are only about 40 people when I get there, that's good. My plan is to get my ticket, then hang around back to talk to band boys. well, I can't find where to pick my ticket up at. So I walk back to the car, get James, and have him come with me. We walk out back and ask one of the My Favorite Highway techs if he knows anyone that can help. He calls David out and David takes us inside where The Cab is doing soundcheck. It never occurred to me to take a picture, don't ask.
Once I get my ticket, I walk outside, get in line and watch Johnson for a while because he's the only interesting thing around. (He was taking a smoke break.) They start calling people for early entry so I move to the front of the line and wait until 6:10 to get inside, with early entry. I get stamped and the move to where the stage is. I realize exactly how small the venue is when I'm sitting on the stage watching My Favorite Highway set up. The play, and are amazingly good. Will almost smacks me with his bass a few times. I've moved to standing, but still. Close.
I go back to sitting on stage when they're done and Eye Alaska is setting up.
Sorry to say, but I really don't like Eye Alaska so I texted during their set. But I still have pictures!
The Summer Set was also amazing and they really got the crowd up and moving. After commenting about how little people were there. By my judgment, there were probably only around 150 people there. I talked to Josh while he was setting his guitar up, he's sweet. He also got his mic stand wrapped up in his guitar cord and made it fall on himself. Talented.
I go back to sitting on stage while A Rocket To The Moon is setting up. Sadly, I don't really like them either so I wasn't paying too much attention. But, I spotted Marshall from the Cab and went to go talk to him. By then, I had no voice, he was distracted, and I'm really short (I struggle to reach 5'4) so I poked him in his arm. He looks down and after squeaking out 'can i have a picture' and him not understanding, I just wave my camera until he figures out. After I take the picture, I stay around and talk to him then go back to the exact same spot I had before I left. Amazing. I watch the last song and somehow, wind up with a guitar pick.
The Cab sets up and comes on, gives an amazing show. I'm right in front of Marshall and his lovely keyboard. Second song into their set, the speakers start smoking. Like, enough so people can see it coming up. It's the center speaker and the far right one, right next to me. During I'll Run, Marshall keeps his eyes on the speaker for the beginning of the song then starts a conversation with me. Effectively making himself mess up the piano part for the song. Not my fault. The rest of the set goes smoothly except for a few technical difficulties.
After the show, I hang around for a little bit and get hugs from the Cab because they're my favorites. Sadly, no pictures because my camera hates everyone except Marshall apparently.
