While browsing Amazon to find a book my brother might like for his birthday, I ended up on the reviews page for the Philip Pullman trilogy His Dark Materials. Unsurprisingly, nearly all of the one-star reviews say something along the lines of "oh my god these books are atheist! I would not let any child read these books and adults should stay away

I just went back to check the date, thinking that maybe she posted it before reading the later Harry Potter books, but it was only posted three days ago, so no go on that. Books written to entertain with harmless lightheartedness are rarely very good, and if you are only reading such books, you won't ever learn anything.

(In other words, I agree with you, though I didn't really articulate it in the post.)
