Do you remember when we read The Good Earth in 9th grade honors english? I was watching OPB (now we're even in nerdular nerdence) and there was a biography on one of the first very successful Chinese actresses Anna May Wong, famous in the 20s or 30s, and she had been given several roles in some good movies, and then they were adapting The Good Earth for the screen, and they had gone so far as to cast the male lead, and so this woman auditioned for Wang Lung's wife O-lan, and then finds out that Wang Lung's character was being played by an American actor, and so her dreams were crashed because they were going to cast white people as Chinese.

I love that book! But I'm not that excited about the movie... And yes, I do understand.

I'm excited, but a good part of the excitement is annoyance.
I mentioned this frustration of mine to a Chinese pal of mine, and he understood but I felt kinda weird 'cause he's one of those Japan-haters, like most Chinese. I almost stopped saying it when he knew the names of both Chinese actresses that are Mameha and Sayuri... but I said it anyway. Whee.

:D
