Rewatch The French Dispatch

If you haven't watched it yet, you must. It's Wes Anderson's greatest.

Fun fact, while painting, Rosenthaler was painting himself by looking at himself. isn't that the cleverest way to show his mental illness? The magic of direction!

Julian Cadazio here explained really well what a modern artist is. If you ask a modern artist to paint a normal thing to look like a normal thing and he can do it perfectly so(in this case a sparrow), but decides that the modern art is infinitely better than the realistic painting, then you'll now that the abstract artist is authentic.

It's hilarious when Rosenthaler says he'd prefer getting electrocuted over doing art, because art is torture. He's literally a tortured artist. This is highly relatable, you try to achieve a state of perfection but throughout the painting there is a lingering doubt if anything will ever work out the way you pictured it to be, more so for abstract art because if anything, people already undermine it.
