"Me Charlie, you angels." Crowley, you magnificent bastard! I'll bet Dean was recalling that moment in Scotland when he was flicking his Bic and kicking himself. I wonder if he's going to tell Bobby? ("Hey, here's a bit of irony for you...") You know what would be hilarious? If Crowley were lying (demons lie!) and he didn't have Sam's soul. Maybe he just knows where it is.
I hadn't considered the literal meaning of "Purgatory." I wonder if the writers are going to address that, or if it just didn't occur to them that Purgatory is not the same thing as Limbo? Heck, maybe there is a Limbo in the SPNverse too, and they just haven't mentioned it yet.
My theory, based on this episode, "Weekend at Bobby's," "Sin City" (3.04), and "Abandon All Hope..." (5.10): Crowley wants to colonize or annex Purgatory as an alternative to invading Earth. The demon who Dean has a long conversation with in "Sin City" tells him that demons are desperate to escape Hell because, duh, it's Hell, and that those

That would be very interesting! And I wouldn't put it past Crowley at all, given that he likes to make the Winchesters squirm.

Yeah, that's what I'm wondering. If Limbo is for the unsaved/pagan, it might make a bit more sense for monsters to go there than to go to Purgatory--although, at least in Dante's geography, Limbo is technically already part of Hell.
I like and approve of your theory! Crowley seems to like Earth and its comforts, but Purgatory might offer him something of a safer spot--at least, he wouldn't have angels and hunters making things difficult for him.
How badly do I want a summit meeting between Castiel and Crowley? SO BADLY.
OMGGGG That would be so awesome. So so SO very awesome.

Ash claims in "Dark Side of the Moon" to have visited the paradise of Mallanāga Vātsyāyana, the Hindu author of the Kama Sutra, so apparently Heaven is not restricted to followers of the Abrahamic religions.

I wonder if SPN demons make deals and wreak havoc because that's just what they do, or because that's who/what they are. Can they go anywhere without making that place an outpost of Hell?
Seriously, we need some Castiel and Crowley interaction. I would also enjoy a snark-off or fellow-connoisseur chat between Crowley and Balthazar ("Ooh, this one's good, what's it called?" "Craig."), but that's a distant second.
I'm not sure that Cas is quite as obviously devious as Crowley but that's only cuz I think Cas has learned himself some annoying scruples blergh- still, I think Crowley could force his hand, make Cas do even more 'regrettable things',
And the thing about Cas, of course, is that what makes him so sneaky is you don't expect it. No one seems to suspect the scrawny (pffft) guy in the trench coat. I wonder, should they meet, if Crowley's impressions will be clouded by his last memory of Cas, from S5... or if maybe they have met since then?
