So I picked up a daily, and I read an article that criticized the Academy for not picking Brokeback Mountain for best picture and that they do not pick the most artsy of movies and blah blah blah

Crash was a very good movie and it was one that makes you think and pay attention to get the full meaning. I really enjoyed watching it and I think it deserves the title, although I never saw Brokeback so that may have been equally as good.

I thought the same thing. Granted, I haven't seen "Brokeback Mountain," but I know people who saw both and prefered "Crash." I dunno... her article was pretty stupid in my book, but that's just me.
