Lucrezia Borgia and the Mother of Poisons by Roberta Gellis is an unusually sympathatic take on that lady. Remember the outfits she was expected to wear at the time ... :)

It's much harder to walk down the stairs when you can't see the steps. or bend at the waist. And you're wearing silk slippers that ... well ... slip. A lot. Especially on marble. :)
