Maltravers, with his almost supernatural ability to catch practically any ball, makes an excellent wicket keeper.
Blenkinsop, with the speed provided by his long (if occasionally difficult to control) legs, makes both a good batsman and a good fielder.
Because of this the two of them usually spend little time together during a game, but afterwards, whether the team are celebrating a win or consoling themselves over a loss, they are practically inseparable.
Even before they were dating, Mat knew that Jim gave the best cuddles: he was very free with them, dishing hugs out to anyone and for any reason - whether because they were sad and needed cheering up, or because they were happy and wanted to share it, or just because it was cold on location. And Mat, like the rest of the cast, had been cuddled by Jim for all these reasons, and each time it had been wonderful.
But now he also gets to have cuddles as he's falling asleep - and those, he decides as he drifts off one night, are the very best of Jim's cuddles.
It is a balmy Sunday afternoon in early summer - the sky dusted with a few fluffy clouds, the sweet scent of the honeysuckle drifting over from the cottage, the swallows swooping above the grass - and the two of them sit in lawn chairs, just enjoying the peace.
At the distant sound of the church clock striking three, Maltravers puts down the half-finished letter to his sister, picks up the teapot and asks, "Fancy another cup?"
Blenkinsop looks up from his book, smiles and says, "Thanks, old bean."

"I would never ask that," Manni replies, cupping Jorund's cheek with his hand and drawing him back so that he can press their lips together.
Jorund tugs at Manni's shirt, pulling him towards the bed, and whispers, "I know."
