I'm not sure if I can do this, honestly. It's not that I doubt that I'm smart and capable because I think I've proved that to myself over the years. I just don't know if I can be at this level. And I know it's still the beginning and it'll get better but even so, when I read a paper and don't understand more than three words in a row, I get

Aww! Keep your chin up! There's always an adjustment period where things seem hopeless and if I'm not mistaken, this time of year seems to take it out of you. :-( You'll get this! And then you'll forget you ever had trouble with it in the first place.

The beginning of the year is always kind of rough. I'm sure by the end of the semester, those papers will seem like Dick & Jane books, they'll be so simple!

But for the love of Pete, don't worry about letting anyone down! You have to do this for yourself, because everyone else is going to be proud of you no matter what. Barring some bizarre downward spiral into a life of violent crime, I guess. :)
