when i had a job my boss was always perplexed that her employees wanted praise for just coming to work and doing their jobs.

i think it's endemic of the generation where all the kids on the peewee soccer team got a trophy just for participating.

Remember, this is a generation that grew up with parents who praised them every time they pooped. They expect to be showered with accolades for the minimal effort of showing up on time and breathing.
