So three days before I'd planned on buying a new computer for my parents, the one they already had stopped working.  It's going through the reboot cycle.

My mother's computer is a +7 year old prebuilt Dell.  It that wasn't bad enough, listen to some of the shit I have on this thing:

I have a spare 5 and a half in floppy drive...and I believe a boot disk for it.

Heh, thanks for reminding me why I'm never going into computer repair. I stumbled through fixing a broken XP machine at my neighbors house this week and now everyone I know is back on the 'you should go into business' bandwagon. Hope you have good luck in fixing that thing!

I hate when people don't realize how much know-how you actually need to deal with that sort of thing.

I was looking at computers for sale the other day, when I realized my knowledge of hardware is already obsolete.
"They're selling quads now?"

Also, My solution ended up being overstock.com. $400 got my parents a computer that's so much more powerful it's scary. Awesome, but frightening. I wonder if they'll ever make use of it.
