So I saw "Batman Begins" tonight, and let me say that if you are interested in the origins of Batman, then your time might be better spent reading this comicIf, however, you are desirous to see a movie where people spend a lot of time talking about fear, justice and vengence while doing poorly shot fight scenes, then run, don't walk to the theatre

I love the fact that he didnt ass kiss the movie like so many other people. I happen to agree with you that it did a poor job of showing the origins and I feel it did a better job of being a badly done psycho analysis of the main characters. I spent half of the movie thinking about the psych courses I've taken and how so much of what was said and done had these huge psychological ramifications. I think that made it a bad movie. I was able to think that much, not a good sign.

*nod* to put simply, a successful movie enables the watcher to suspend disbelief at least for the duration of the film. The man dresses up like a giant bat and fights bad guys. I know it's fictional and absurd, but that's the premise, so I accept that and move on from there. But when the movie attempts to try to make it seem rational, it just seems to highlight how silly the concept is.
But really, I had the same problems with this movie as I did with "Revenge of the Sith" You can try to layer on reason after reason for why somebody becomes Darth Vader or Batman and it will fail, because they're not real people, they're not supposed to be real people, they're legends, myths. If you will, the character Batman is a projection of our own struggle between justice and mercy. We don't need to know how that struggle began, but to understand how to work through it.
