Obituary for James N. Castleberry, Jr.
Article from Burlington, VT paper confirming the identity of his body

I may be leaving Decompression at some point this weekend for my grandfather's funeral (he was the last of my living grandparents). He has been missing from his trout fishing trip for a few days and authorities have located his boat and his hat. And although they have not discovered his body in the murky waters, he is being presumed dead (this is why even experienced survivalists are supposed to use the buddy system, folks... so that if you happen to have a heart attack and fall into the water, someone can drag you out & call for medical help!). Well, at least he lived a long & fruitful life. He was born in Alabama, and grew up on a farm. He joined the military and became a colonel in the US Air Force, piloting supply planes in Germany during and after WWII. He was the father of five girls and one boy. He was the dean of St. Mary's Law School for a couple of decades; and when he retired, he traveled the world doing continuing legal education programs. He and my grandmother took me to Europe with them in 1988; and while he taught classes for an exchange program in Innsbruck, Austria, we visited towns & cities all over Austria, Germany, Italy, & Switzerland. Although there were times that he & I disagreed on some fundamental issues (such as how to address the 1999 UNAM strike), in the last few years of his life, he seemed to have found a much happier perspective than his life-long stoic attitude. Perhaps I should take a hint, and lighten up myself, so that I can fully appreciate the time I have to be alive! Let's take care of ourselves & love our families while we can, okay?

I can't help but wonder about the synchronicity of this with my last post, from this weekend... I was already looking forward to discussing my new found orientation towards political canvassing with my mother's family, who are all still "Yellow-Dog Democrats," but I certainly didn't expect to be brought together with them under these circumstances.

In any case, we will still be hosting another salon at our house tomorrow around 8pm... primarily preparing for " The Tri-Cult Devival!"
