I decided: if I can take a shot for the team, to help increase the odds of our survival, then I will do it... Not just so I am less likely to die, but to increase the odds of survival for so many others!

Be there. This is your shot. // COVID Vaccine PSA

I have hosted other discussions about vaccines, throughout the years...

RE: I’m Autistic, And Believe Me, It’s A Lot Better Than Measles
Vaccines don’t cause autism. But even if they did, is being like me really a fate worse than death?

And this is how we get measles, folks...

Over the years, I have spoken with a significant number of mothers from Xtian, Neopagan, Tantric, & indigenous communities who are anti-vaxxers/previous vaxxers/post-vaxxers... And a little over a year ago when measles made a comeback in the US, I did a deep dive with them to try and understand where they are coming from... It was a lot darker than I expected! Some of them truly do not trust modern medicine, corporate media, the military industrial complex, and the political dog & pony show (for many good reasons)... Some think that vaccines and a host of modern medical treatments are actually making human health worse on an exponential scale... And some would not only have themselves and their children die of natural causes... Some of them would prefer that there were a mass extinction that wiped 80% or more of the humans off of the planet, so that humans would learn a healthier respect for the environment & other creatures with whom we share this planet... if you will pardon my western tongue in cheek, let us propitiate Kali-Ma to bestow a blessing of forgiveness upon us, for overstepping our bounds as a species; but only when we have been properly humbled by her mighty wisdom!

PS I did know about this particular risk when I got the J&J vaccine, and understand the caution (I am also happy to participate in the first line of defense. ); but I preferred the odds of the "one & done" dosage for myself, so I am glad that I got in under the wire...

My immune system is fortunately sturdy, but cytokine storms are terrifying!

The 1 in a million chance of blood clots can be treated with an alternative blood thinner (apparently heparin often triggers a worse reaction)...

Still yet, I am doing my best to stay active & hydrate!

Fauci... said that he sees "similarities" between clotting issues that have arisen in a small handful of patients who took the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine and issues that arose in some patients that were administered AstraZeneca's vaccine.

Speaking on NBC's "Today," Fauci said that the two issues "certainly could be [connected]," adding that there were some "rather strong similarities" between the two groups of patients.

"There are some rather strong similarities about this with regard to the timeframe following vaccination, particularly, importantly, the clinical syndrome of these clots together with low platelets, so there are a lot of similarities there that you just can't miss," Fauci said.

However, we really do need to do more testing to figure out exactly what is going on here...

"...(2OYS): Now, it's also important for us to be clear that there is no definitive proof right now that the J&J vaccine is the cause of these clots very few of them. That's what investigators are looking at. If it is determined the vaccine is not the cause of these issues, what are the possible reasons for these clots that are being reported?

(Dr. Elad Levy, Chairman of Neurosurgery at the University at Buffalo): You made an excellent point, we don't know if the vaccine is causing these clots. And as I said, every year for the last decade, I've treated a handful of patients with these clots before we even had this vaccine. So this pause is important. There's a question, is there an association? And now scientifically, we have to answer that question. And that's the reason for the pause. Until we have that answer, exactly. As you said, we shouldn't jump to any conclusion.

(2OYS): Is this now an example of science doing what it's designed to do, checks and balances?

(Dr. Levy): Science is doing what science needs to do. There may be an association, it may just be the fact that these six people got clots. So they're going to try to answer that question. They placed a pause because the first thing is, do no harm. The last thing we want to do is offer a treatment that may or may be harmful..."

Not to jump to conclusions, but any reference to blot clots will also be reminiscent of the phenomenon in patients with Covid-19...

"The body’s cardiovascular system often is described as a network of one-way streets that connect the heart to other organs. Blood is the transport system, responsible for moving nutrients to the cells and waste away from them. A common cold or a cut on the finger can lead to changes that help repair the damage, but when the body undergoes a more significant trauma, the blood can overreact, leading to an imbalance that can cause excessive clots or bleeding - and sometimes both.

Scientists call this 'hemostatic derangement.' In math, a derangement is a permutation in which no element is in its original position.

Harlan Krumholz, a cardiac specialist at the Yale-New Haven Hospital Center, said no one knows whether blood complications are a result of a direct assault on blood vessels, or a hyperactive inflammatory response to the virus by the patient’s immune system.

Blood clots, in which the red liquid turns gel-like, appear to be the opposite of what occurs in Ebola, Dengue, Lassa and other hemorrhagic fevers that lead to uncontrolled bleeding.

...

One of the theories is that once the body is so engaged in a fight against an invader, the body starts consuming the clotting factors, which can result in either blood clots or bleeding. In Ebola, the balance was more toward bleeding. In covid-19, it’s more blood clots,” he said.

Both the AstraZeneca and the Johnson & Johnson vaccines use an inactivated form of a common cold virus, called an adenovirus, to teach the immune system to recognize the spike protein found of the surface of the coronavirus.

In both products, the adenovirus is genetically modified so it does not cause cold symptoms. In the AstraZeneca vaccine, the modified virus comes from chimpanzees; in Johnson & Johnson's, the virus comes from humans.

No such clotting issues have been reported with the Covid-19 vaccines made by Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna, health officials said. Those vaccines use a different type of technology, called messenger RNA, or mRNA.

Experts believe it's possible that on rare occasions, the adenovirus itself could lead to clotting, due to a reaction involving platelets.

Indeed, the New England Journal of Medicine analysis suggested the adenovirus as the mechanism at play.

"Most of these patients are developing antibody against what's caused platelet factor 4, which causes platelets to clump together," said Dr. Greg Poland, director of the Mayo Clinic's Vaccine Research Group in Rochester, Minnesota.

"We also know that adenoviruses themselves can cause platelet activation and binding," said Poland, who is also a consultant for multiple Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers, including Johnson & Johnson.

Platelets play a critical role in blood clotting, which is important for healing cuts and other wounds. When an injury occurs, platelets in the blood are activated, rushing to the site of the injury and forming a clot.

But sometimes, platelets can become activated when there is no injury, leading to clots in the blood vessels that can cut off blood flow to key organs such as the heart, lungs or brain.

"...Over 20 million doses of the AZ vaccine have been given in the UK so far. According to the MHRA, the risk of a serious blood clot as a result of the jab is approximately one in 250,000 people vaccinated, or four in a million..."

(compared with approx. 6 in a million for the J&J vaccine)

"...Vaxzevria and blood clots: the risk in context

Over 20 million doses of the AZ vaccine have been given in the UK so far. According to the MHRA, the risk of a serious blood clot as a result of the jab is approximately one in 250,000 people vaccinated, or four in a million. It’s also worth noting that Covid-19 itself carries a significant risk of blood clots; according to a study in the journal Thorax, the prevalence of pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis in people with the virus was 7.8% and 11.2%, respectively.

What’s more, around 10,000 people usually develop blood clots in the EU in any given month, while an estimated 3,000 blood clot cases occur monthly in the UK. The general population’s risk of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) - one of the blood clot types observed in Vaxzevria recipients - is around five in a million; slightly higher than the risk associated with the vaccine.

Emeritus professor of Applied Statistics at The Open University, Prof Kevin McConway, commented: “One thing that needs to be done in checking whether a possible vaccine adverse effect is actually caused by the vaccine is to compare how often the effect happened after vaccination, compared to how often it happens in healthy, unvaccinated people.

“Just to point out how difficult this can be, a recent EMA report about blood clots looked at the background risk of CVST, one of the serious blood clotting disorders under consideration. They say that in a million people followed up for a year (before Covid), somewhere between two and five might have a CVST, but then point out that more recent studies say it might be 13 or 16 cases, not two or five, and that this seems to be because data are being collected more carefully.

“With this uncertainty about what would happen without Covid and without vaccination, it’s difficult for the regulatory authorities to make the comparisons they need to make. And when they do, there could still be considerable uncertainty involved, as was stated.”

It has also been widely noted that the risk of blood clots for those taking the contraceptive pill is around one in 2,000 - significantly higher than the risk for people receiving the AZ vaccine, but cases are still so rare that no restrictions have been placed on prescribing the pill to healthy people..."

"As of April 12, more than 6.8 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) vaccine have been administered in the U.S. The CDC and FDA are reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine,” a joint statement from the agencies reads. “In these cases, a type of blood clot called cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) was seen in combination with low levels of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia).”

...

Your blood clot risk is actually higher if you become ill with COVID-19.
Experts agree that the CDC and FDA’s move is clearly out of an abundance of caution. “It’s a very smart decision and it shows that our system of vaccine safety surveillance works,” says William Schaffner, M.D., an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. “The risk of having a CVST from the Johnson & Johnson vaccine based on what we know so far is a rate of about one per million doses,” he says. “That’s like finding a needle in a haystack.”

“There’s a risk-benefit ratio to consider,” Dr. Adalja adds. “Even if those six cases were related to the vaccine, the risk-benefit ratio still favors getting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine greatly.”

...

“You know what else causes a much higher risk of blood clots than the vaccine? COVID-19,” Dr. Watkins says. According to a meta-analysis published in the journal Thorax, 7.8% of people diagnosed with COVID-19 are at risk of developing a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs) and 11.2% are at ri sk of deep vein thrombosis, a blood clot in a deep vein (usually in the legs).

...

if you have already received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, the CDC and FDA recommend looking out for any unusual symptoms within three weeks of receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, including a severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath.

If you happen to experience any of these symptoms, contact your healthcare provider to ensure a proper diagnosis. But rest assured that “this is an extremely small risk,” Dr. Schaffner says. “Let’s not panic.”"

I can tell you for certain that I will definitely be getting 20-40 minutes of aerobic exercise a day, to make sure I am getting enough oxygen in my system!

"...Regular exercise, along with good nutrition, sleep and stress reduction, is helpful in maintaining a healthy immune system. Experts recommend maintaining a regular exercise routine before and after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. But you can go too far: Overtraining syndrome happens when you are exercising too vigorously and depleting your body of nutrients over time, subsequently weakening your immune system and putting yourself at higher risk of getting sick..."

Probably preaching to the choir, here  But in 2012, I was inspired by this cartoon to write down my free Rx for people who are fully invested in improving their own health:

* meditate an hour a day (if you prefer, break it up into multiple 15 or 20 minute sessions, to begin with)
* each day, do at least 40 min ea of aerobic & anaerobic exercise (they will both help raise your metabolism)
* eat a diet high in fresh organic vegetables & fruits ......(without any processed "foods")
* spend more time outside (nature is a great teacher)
* focus on what you CAN do to improve your life & your world ("be the change you wish to see")
* be extremely careful of what audio/video programming you allow yourself to be exposed to (there is no such thing as "must see tv," although there are some enriching sources of valuable information in certain recorded sources)
* balance every statement of criticism/resentment with at least five times as many comments of praise/gratitude (apparently, there is a magic balance... resolving actual problems with constructive criticism, while at the same time maintaining praise as a reward)

If you aren't feeling better after two weeks of this daily Rx, contact me & I'll give you a free personalized analysis of what may help...

But I will leave you with this hint, in the meanwhile:

“I have so much to accomplish today that I must meditate for two hours instead of one.” - Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
