An interesting thing about stereotyes is almost everyone denies that they fit into one. This shows that it could be a view that is meant to make others easier to read while they know themselves that they are quite complex. Make sense? There are a bunch of theories I could run by along with that one. Stereotypes may possibly on a very small level have some practicality to them. If you watch a crowd for a few moments and see how they interract you may learn just by that knowledge how to join with them and other groups like them. You may not understand why you generalize their interractions, but it makes it much less confusing than adapting it as your own along with the many others you would have to know for other groups. Stereotyping can also alter the environment you are in based on the crowd. It is odd when someone breaks their stereotype like an old man swearing or speaking slang. It's true that adhering to stereotypes can make social interactions easier, but they also make them rather limited in their complexity and depth. This, in turn, can lead to artificial relationships, which, in turn, can lead to hurt and future pain. However, it is true that breaking those stereotypes can create a lot of insite into the nature of the person who has broken them, because we are always curious about anamoly.
