A phrase of the former, and now no longer. Made middle with philosophy sans greeting and the science of -- a name. Marked at the end by the alias of war-worn sanctuary.
for some reason it always goes to machine when Stein calls. he must just have the worst luck with timing.]
Hello Katurian. This is Doctor Stein, I just called to say hello and maybe to chat because I have some free time. We're on our way back to the City but Spirit won't let me drive anymore because he doesn't approve of my aggressive driving tactics. Personally I think he's just being a baby.
[a little pause. do Stein's monotone monologues ever get old? probably.]
Anyway I guess I'll hang up before the machine cuts me off again bye.
Stein is beginning to have serious doubts about the quality of Katurian's telephone. not only does it never pick up but it seems that the messages he leaves always get eaten before Katurian can listen to them. not that this stops him from leaving more.]
Hello Katurian. This is Dr. Stein. I just called to say hello because we haven't talked in a while. I guess you could say that I miss the sound of your voice, in a friendly former doctor-patient relationship kind of way.
Unfortunately my day was full of disappointment. I wanted to bake a small cake but I was out of eggs. And there's no point in even leaving the apartment this late at night is there. Alas.
[yes he just delivered that in his usual monotone. why does this keep happening.]
Well I would hate to get cut off by the machine again so I'll let you go bye.

Oh Jesus. [He laughs unsteadily.] Oh Jesus, I didn't even realize you were gone.
