I wouldn't really call sushi "fancy" Japanese... you can buy it at convenience stores and there are fast food places (I'm sure you've heard about conveyor belt sushi) that do it the same as do gyudon. I think it's only perceived as "fancy" in the US because it involves seafood.
Now, a bonafied genuine Japanese-style ramen place I could get behind...
I think that would really fly in MPLS. We have a ton of sushi restaurants and an unwholesome love for comfort food, especially when it's cold and disgusting (which it is 7 months out of 12).
(On another note, thank you for telling me what a kotatsu is; you can get a couple in Animal Crossing: City Folk but I just assumed they were some kind of puffly table.)
