So.  The Oscars.  It was terrible and I'll try to condense my rantings to one blog entry to tell you why in a somewhat rational manner.  (My real life rants have consisted of me screaming "It's hard out here for a pimp" over and over again...emphasis on PIMMMP ( Read more... )

When did I ever smack you in the face?

I liked Clooney's acceptance speech. I think the 'now I'm not gonna win best director' line shows that he doesn't take himself or Hollywood too seriously. (not like Spielberg!) As for the political stuff, he's right. In a year of such political films no one can deny that Hollywood, or at least more of Hollywood than ever before, is using it for social and political advancement.

I've liked Clooney ever since he teamed up with Soderbergh and became an actor.

The cowboy montage was lame, the Hanks bit was lame, but the campaign ads were hilarious. And the president of the Academy always speaks, giving all the home viewers an opportunity to go to the bathroom, get another beer, etc.

Overall, I liked it. Because I beat Adam in our Oscar pool this year.

i enjoyed it. its fun to turn off my brain and watch people dress up and give each other awards. sometimes its about art, most of the time its not. this year's awards had the 2nd worst ratings of viewers in academy history. some lame ass critic said it was because the films weren't good enough! paah! this year will be pegged as political art, but in fact, i believe that for the first time in a while a larger part of hollywood was commited to actually doing ART. not just entertainment, i think they are two totally seperate things. both are valuable. it seemed that several films set out with the goal of making the audience bigger, better (catch the quote?). very exciting, so i liked it when old george said he didn't know how you could compare art. and i liked the part where he whipped his privates out and started giggling and running around the stage! =)silly ( ... )
