Dean: "I'm tired, Sam. I'm tired of this job. This life. This weight on my shoulders, man, I'm tired of it."

Sam: "So you're just going to give up? You're just going to lay down and die?"

I think it's significant that the only time we've ever met Michael was in a place where we could also hang out with our old friend Uriel. If ( Read more... )

kripke is reading fanfic again, johnjohn is the worst father ever, god is not on a flatbread, those damn winchesters, episode reaction: spn, i am the prophet chuck!, the fanfic is rapidly becoming text, dean can't fight this feeling anymore, saving things hunting people, i've read this fanfic, shut up affably, despair event horizon inc., reel people are reely important, it's gonna be legendary, in kripke we trust, dean doesn't want to be the receptacle, it's the end of the world as we know it, angels we have heard are high, give him a damn hug already

I don't see the point in writing out a full essay because Dean and the Family Life and getting to be a great dad without all the supernatural crapola seems to me to be the most obvious thing he wants ever.

I agree with this.

However, I hadn't thought about your point about Dean being the whore. I love that.

Yeah I wrote this post when I was feeling a bit grumpy. D'oh! But I really didn't like the fandom uproar and people being all "WTF Lisa? Where's Cassie? We're supposed to buy this?" and such, especially considering fandom's track record with love interests. Bahhh.

Yeah, well especially when you take into consideration all the loaded sexual vocabulary they use to describe angels: "riding some poor bastard," "consent," "life as an angel condom," submission and such. So I found that really interesting in contrast to the whole Whore metaphor imagery in the episode (and how happy was I that her apocalyptic representation didn't have anything to do with sex!). So Dean selling his body for the apocalypse, yeah, is really interesting.

The comment itself might've offended/bothered people, but a lot of initial angry reactions of "SPN is failing again!" seemed to've derailed discussion about consent and temptation and those underrunning themes. IDK. All I know is that it was in character and intentionally gallows humor. :/

Well, I at first had a WTF?! reaction to the scene too, and here's why: it plays like a OMG TRUE LOVE SCENE. Or at least, that's how it seemed to me. So I was like, uh, hello, if you're going with Dean's ~one love~, where is Cassie...? Lisa makes perfect sense as a choice once you view the scene in the light that he's saying goodbye to his wishes and fantasies (embodied, now, in her and how perfectly she represents his chance for the life he wants), but that's not the first vibe the scene gives off.

So Dean selling his body for the apocalypse, yeah, is really interesting.

It is. I'm glad you brought it up.

Eh, I really don't like the whore line because, y'know, on a good day you get to kill a whore. If you're lucky, you get to murder women! Wooo~~! I just... yeah. Count me among the bothered and offended.
