Squirrel Nut Zippers

Okay, this band was so amazing. I got into a youtube kick tonight of watching their old videos. I really really love them and it saddens me to no end that I was just a little too young to get to see them play live.

So awesome. Hot is an icredible album. Their Dixieland sound is incredible, and the female singer's voice is outstanding.

yeah, I messed up the original post and forgot to put "Hell" in the videos section.

I had Hot and Perenial Favorites and have such fond memories of just sitting out on my porch, shucking corn, and singing along with my discman. I remember trying to mimic Katharine Whalen's Billie Holiday-esque voice and singing scat to all the solos.

I got pretty bummed when issues started happening with the lineup. The two man singers in the band were once married and broke up, which may have had an effect on the amount of solo work the band did in the 2000's.

Upon checking out their website and wikipedia page this morning I've found out they have been playing sparse tourdates, the most recent being a 2009 Halloween show in Louisiana! They have put out an album recently and are working on a new one. Here's to hoping for a tour so I can finally see them in all their delta blues gypsy swing glory!

yeah, I did more research after I posted about them. Hopefully with them working on a new studio album, a tour will follow!

I was bored and wandered over here from VP. I love Squirrel Nut Zippers and my daughter loves it when I sing Put a Lid on It. :)

Oh, they are truly fantastic. It's too bad they've broken up. I saw them on a reunion tour in Manhattan a few years ago. I play their 'Christmas Caravan' album every year when I'm tree-trimming.

supposedly they are "back together" and playing some shows. They recently put out a live album and are working on a new studio album according to their website. This means....possible tour!!
