My poor IBM laptop served me faithfully for six years until I spilled water on it Monday morning. It is officially fried; still up in the air whether I'll be able to get anything off the disc drive. Fortunately, I back things up fairly regularly on my external harddrive, but not too regularly, so if the disc drive is unsalvageable, I will lose ( Read more... )

I am sorely tempted by the MacBook Pro. The cost is a bit off-putting, but it does seem like a good choice. I'm mostly worried whether the Apple techs will be able to salvage my IBM disc drive...

Novel was going to be a fictional recount of my father's great-aunts. They were pretty wild and tough.

Also gone: the mostly fleshed-out outline for my long Spooks fic.

Curse my clumsiness!

Oh no! Fic loss. I hope it's still in your head...?

I love my (ancient) macbook, and might soon upgrade to a macbook pro. I have never found anybody more helpful than the apple geniusbar people, even though they all look about 12 years old. But it does come at a price. Apparently you can buy good reconditioned ones?

I like the sound of the great aunts, I imagine something like the Mitfords....

Who are/were the Mitfords?

I have been looking at reconditioned MacBooks on eBay, and will continue to investigate all possibilities. My father has contractor status with IBM, so I could get a Lenovo for pretty cheap too.
