Things to do in Glasgow?

UK f'list - I've got about two days in total to spend in Glasgow. What should I do/see/eat? I like funky architecture, historical landmarks, museums, vintage shopping, good (cheap) food, and old pubs.

travel, scotland

I'm afraid I don't know Glasgow at all!! I've driven through it twice and that's it. But I gather that all the things you want are available there.

I know if I was going I'd want to see:

*the refurbished dock area including the 'squinty' bridge (the Clyde Arc) and the Clyde Auditorium, localy known as the armadillo - all close to the centre

*the Charles Rennie Mackintosh house and collection (owned by the Hunter University) - I saw a TV programme about it and it's on my list of 'one day' things

*the Barrowlands market (only, I think, open at weekends)

*Trongate 103 - an arts studio and trading venture

*the Lighthouse Museum of Architecture, itself in an interesting building

*Buchanan Street, which is supposed to be the most upmarket shopping streets outside London in UK

*Glasgow Green, with churches, fountains, and a 'people's palace' glass house

The city centre has magnificent buildings but most of them are Victorian - the mediaeval city is virtually destroyed.

Have a lovely time!!

Thanks so much! This is a great list, and echoes a lot of what I've heard from others.

Cheers!

These were great suggestions, thanks! Sadly I didn't get them till I was back from Glasgow, but I did make it to the Kelvingrove Museum, The Hunterian and Mackintosh House, the Necropolis and the Cathedral.

I had amazing food in the West end, but sadly didn't really get to do any shopping. Next time!
