I tip my cup to the raging sea

Life is a giant bundle of blah, mostly down to the fact that A) I still have 11,000 words of a dissertation two write in 19 days...but not too much of an idea what I'm going to say and B) the real-world (life post grad school) is approaching fast which means I need i) a job ii) a place to live ( Read more... )

What, it seems like just last week you were moving to Ireland! Is it nearly over already? How sad. Best of best of luck with wrangling the remnants of your dissertation (I know you can do it!), and with wrangling whatever comes after, and with, you know, stealing any bbqs you might want to steal.

(Sorry to hear about your granny, also. You mentioned she was ill before. Did you get back home to see her?)

No, I haven't been home at all. The last time I saw Gran was her birthday last June. She died nearly to the day one year later. I do find it comforting that she died pretty much exactly as she lived: on her own terms.

The tortoise-stealing-a-BBQ is a representation of my slow and ponderous progress on a thing that is generally not-very-important but nice (like BBQ). Obvisouly.

Now I just want BBQ...

What're you up to?

That's good to hear, and that you have a good last memory of her, too. Always hard, though.

Haha, yes, I see what you did there with the bbq/dissertation thing. What I am up to re work at the moment... could probably be described with a similar comparison. SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE, KATE.

This is amazing!

I'm not a terrible procrastinator. Um. Sometimes. I've actually been working pretty steadily on it all summer, with some very big interruptions (breakup with the boyfriend - affliction with deadly virus -- grieving period for very beloved grandma). So now I'm scrambling.

Still, am in better position that quite a few of my classmates, and one of my housemates who has not yet written a single word!

Sounds like you've had a pretty rough summer. I'm sorry. Deadly virus? I'm glad you're ok now. (You are, right?)

Keep up the good work on the dissertation. Carry that barbecue all the way to the finish line.

(sneaking in to ask if you've finished your dissertation yet, and also to ask if you're going to be able to take advantage of this fabulous news?)

Not finished yet. Getting very close to the word limit and still have two chapters to write. They are...uh...going to have to be short!

I so, so soooooo want to be able to take advantage of that fabulous news. Life is all up in the air right now, and I'm not yet sure where I'll be come the end of November.
