homesick

In general, people seem to have a difficult time understanding why I get so homesick (and then I have to deal with things like, "you just need to make friends" or "you should call home more often"). I hesitate to say I completely understand, but I think I understand to a decently significant degree. It's partially why I chose to go to UMCP, stay in-state close to my family. I very much grew up in a similar environment, family-wise -- a vacuum of love, as you so aptly put it. Never had much of a teenage rebellion phase, either. And my mom especially has been pretty much my best friend ever -- which isn't to say I don't have others, but really, nothing quite compares.

So while I haven't had much of an opportunity to be homesick recently (not since I went to India for two months by myself four years ago), I know where you're coming from. And rest assured, I won't try and offer you empty platitudes, because I know they're meaningless and often hurt more than help. I'll just offer you hugs, if that's ok :) *hug*
