Deep breath. I forgot about the whole, other people caring thing. And I do take it as caring. I know people are coming from a good place when they tell me I'm crazy for getting a "pit bull". One thing I hate right now is even saying pit bull. There is no pit bull breed. It's an American Staffordshire Terrier or a Staffordshire Bull Terrier from ( Read more... )

eff them. also, dalamations can be mean dogs, but b/c the media doesnt report on that, its not stuck in peoples heads. give anyone that raises pit bulls to be like that another dog, and that dog will be mean too, its all in how you raise them. they choose pit bulls for it b/c they are loyal (so theyll listen to you) and they are hearty so they can "take it" better than some other breeds. my uncle had a pit bull and she was the nicest dog, ever. we had a water spaniel that bit me so hard (it was my fault...) that i needed stitches. no one cried out about that.

Doggie profiling! Jason has a rather large scar on his ear from being bitten by a dalmation when he was 5. My Gram had a springer spaniel that almost shredded both her hands. Conversely, we had a pitbull mix stray that walked into our yard one day and lived with was us happily for the next 10 or so years. She was very timid and had the sweetest disposition, and never gave any hint at wanting to snap at anyone.

Dogs aren't mean .. they are made that way by their owners.

However, I'd be nervous about rescuing an American or Bull Terrier ... are you rescuing or getting a puppy?

We are only looking at puppies, but we are looking at breeder ones and rescued ones. We're meeting the rescued ones tonight, so we'll see. I'm a little leery of it because they were abused/neglected, but they are also only a couple months old. They are staying with kids, so we'll see how they act with our kids and just take it from there.
